On December 5, the Award Ceremony for 2014 Excellent CSR Practices of Foreign-invested Enterprises in China was held in Beijing. The event was organized by China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment and China WTO Tribune. The “Urban Sewage Recycle” Project by Asia Symbol (Shandong) Pulp and Paper Co., Ltd. was recognized as one of the 2014 Best CSR Practices of Foreign-invested Enterprises in China. Former Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and Honorary Chairman of China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment Shi Guangsheng presented the award certificates.

AS Urban Sewage Recycle Project

In order to further save water resources and protect the environment, Asia Symbol has invested RMB 68.4 million to import the technology and equipment from Singapore to treat discharged waste water and recycle it for use in industrial production. Operational since December 2013, the project with a daily treatment capacity of 40,000 tons, has reduced the annual consumption of over 10 million tons of fresh water, equivalent to the volume of water supply for 100,000 households for a year. In addition, it also reduced annual emission of 370 tons of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and 40 tons of ammonia nitrogen. The project is a model for sustainable development and is a precedent in the use of recycled water to alleviate urban water scarcity.

The list of Best CSR Practices of Foreign-invested Enterprises in China is compiled jointly by China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment and China WTO Tribune and is intended to amplify the best CSR practices of foreign-invested enterprises as role models to fulfill social responsibilities. At the ceremony, the Best CSR Practice Index of Foreign-invested Enterprises in China was published. The index was formulated based on the concept of corporate social responsibility competitiveness, using a seven first-tier indicators and 16 second-tier indicators to evaluate the projects. The evaluation criteria include the project’s strategic status, process innovation, social benefits, economic benefits, replicability, sustainability and professional advantages. After evaluation, 56 best CSR practice projects from 47 foreign-invested enterprises were selected. The 47 enterprises were from 13 countries and 20 of them were Fortune Global 500 firms.
