Woodfibre LNG Limited, a subsidiary of Pacific Oil & Gas Limited , announced on 13 January 2015 that the Environmental Assessment Office has accepted its application for an Environmental Assessment Certificate. “Woodfibre LNG’s application reflects the feedback we’ve received from the community and it addresses people’s priorities for the project,” said Byng Giraud, Vice President of Corporate Affairs.

The acceptance of the application is significant for the project because it means the company has completed the Environmental Assessment Office’s pre-application requirements. The Environmental Assessment Office conducted a pre-application public consultation in June and July of 2014. Now the application enters the six-month review process by the Environmental Assessment Office , which includes a 45-day public comment period, during which the public can let the Environmental Assessment Office know what it thinks about the proposed LNG project in Squamish. The Environmental Assessment Office will hold public open houses in Squamish, West Vancouver and on Bowen Island from 28 to 30 January 2015.

“The conversations we’ve been having throughout the Sea-to-Sky Corridor have led to important changes that make our project better, and we look forward to hearing from people during this new phase of public consultation,” said Giraud.

Woodfibre LNG conducted an additional 14 public meetings in two rounds of community consultation in February and June 2014 to understand their interests, issues and concerns. It has also participated in more than 300 meetings in the community, as well as two telephone town halls.

“From the very beginning, Woodfibre LNG has worked to design a project that is right for Squamish and right for B.C., with good jobs, opportunities for local businesses and contractors, and that protects the environment, on land and water,” he added.

At the end of the review there will be a decision on the granting of the environmental certificates made by two provincial ministers.
