On June 18, 2014, Our Environment-Friendly Behavior – 2014 RGE National Drawing Contest on Environmental Protection for Primary and Secondary School Students was officially launched in Beijing. This contest is hosted by the Center for Environmental Education & Communications of Ministry of Environmental Protection of China, and co-organized by Youth.cn and RGE.
The theme for this year’s RGE National Drawing Contest on Environmental is “Our Environment-Friendly Behavior”, which aims to demonstrate the students’ understanding and actions on environmental protection, as well their expectations for future environmental development.
At the launch ceremony, JIA Feng, Director of the Center for Environmental Education & Communications of Ministry of Environmental Protection of China said, “Primary and secondary school students are the future of the nation. Educating them on environmental issues will not only enhance their awareness towards environmental protection, but also have a far-reaching influence on their families and the wider society. It was for this purpose that we hold the drawing contest for primary and secondary school students.”
HAO Xianghong, Executive Deputy Director of the Center for Network Film & Television of CYLC and President of Youth .cn said, “Environmental protection is the basic policy of our nation, and its success is the lifeline for our children and the future development of our nation. Mobilizing the children to participate in environmental protection activities will not only have an impact on future environmental protection policy formulation, but also promote the implementation of the work of environmental protection.”
RGE, a family of companies led by Indonesian-born chairman and entrepreneur Sukanto Tanoto, has always been committed to environmental protection. Dr. LV Jianzhong, Executive Vice-President of RGE China, said, “Through the sharing of environmental protection knowledge to primary and secondary school students, they are able to participate in practical environmental protection activities and demonstrate what they have learnt by means of art. This process will have a profound influence on them.”
He also said, “For decades, RGE has operated in a manner which is ‘good for the community, good for the country and good for the company’. RGE is committed to the overall development and utilization of renewable resources, and sustainable development. We have carried out activities for corporate social responsibility and environmental protection over the last several years, of which the drawing contest on environmental protection for primary and secondary school students is one of them. This year’s contest will be extended to the whole nation, enabling more children to lead the way for others to jointly participate in environmental protection.”
The submission of drawings takes place from June 18, 2014 to September 20, 2014, with the award ceremony scheduled to be held in November, 2014. In addition to the selection of “Best Choice Award for Environmental Drawings”, online exhibitions of “Stories behind the Drawings – Creative Projects for Advocating Environmental Protection at Schools” and “My Environment-friendly Behaviors” will be simultaneously conducted on the official website of the contest (http://zt.gy.youth.cn/jyhbds/).
