Prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist Sukanto Tanoto attended the 2015 Fudan Global Leader Forum. He shared his experiences as an entrepreneur and also spoke on the topics of innovation and persistence.
Expressing his pride in building a successful presence in the pulp and paper and clean energy industries, he said that innovation not only existed in the technological domain, but also business. He underlined the importance of innovation and stressed that more attention be paid of various kinds of resources, including outsourcing particular services.
In the roundtable discussion that followed, Sukanto Tanoto, who is recognised as one of the successful overseas ethnic Chinese business leaders in the world, turned his focus on communication and overcoming cultural differences between East and West.
The 66-year old self-made billionaire has shown no signs of slowing down, keeping his focus on newer challenges, constantly invigorated by continuous learning and self-improvement, while rooting himself in the same values - doing what is good for community and country, and then company.
Because of his business leadership and impactful philanthropy, the Shanghai Municipal Government gave him the "Magnolia Gold Award" in 2003 in recognition. His contributions have since not waned.
