A record 266 Tanoto scholars attended the Tanoto Scholars Gathering 2015 on 12-15 August. Held annually since 2010, the event is organised by Tanoto Foundation.
At the Tanoto Scholars Gathering 2015, there were many programmes and activities to engage its participants in team-bonding, character development and the nurturing of leadership capabilities. There were also career talks and seminars on social media and public speaking.
Asian Agri has built biogas plants with methane capture technology in five mills in North Sumatra, Riau and Jambi, which will reduce the amount of methane gas emission for crude palm oil (CPO) production. Methane gas, together with carbon dioxide, is the major green house gas, which contributes to global warming and climate change.

On 2 July 2015, The Straits Times published an article on the young business leaders of Indonesia’s family businesses - John Riady of the Lippo Group, Fuganto Widjaja of Golden Energy and Resources, and Anderson Tanoto of the RGE Group. Anderson is the son of Sukanto Tanoto, the founder of RGE and a prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist.
Faced with increasing demand for top-quality digital-ready fine papers, APRIL Group is building its third paper mill facility in Pangkalan Kerinci site in Riau Province in Indonesia. The APRIL Group, founded by well-known Indonesian entrepreneur, Sukanto Tanoto, started its pulp and paper business in 1993 with the first plantation and mill established in Kerinci. It is now one of the largest and most technologically advanced pulp and paper producers in the world, and its paper products are exported to 75 countries all over the world.
On 17 June 2015, Sateri, the viscose staple fibre (VSF) business unit of the RGE Group, signed an agreement to invest RMB 11 billion in China’s Jiangxi province. RGE Chairman, Sukanto Tanoto, together with Party Secretary of Jiangxi Province Qiang Wei, Party Secretary of Jiujiang City Yin Mei Gen witnessed the signing ceremony in Singapore, during the Chinese delegation’s China-Singapore Trade Cooperation trip.
