The re-planting season for many smallholders’ aging oil palms has commenced. Oil palms have an average productive life span of about 25 to 30 years, and start producing fruit bunches 3 years after planting. Guided by the philosophy of the founder, Sukanto Tanoto, to operate in a manner that is good for the community, good for the country and good for the company, Apical and Asian Agri will be assisting the smallholders to upgrade their agronomic practices and provide new generation seedlings for replanting.
The Tropical Landscapes Summit 2015, hosted by the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), was held in Jakarta, Indonesia on 27 to 28 April. This conference enabled key stakeholders to explore and engage in various plenary discussions that lead to climate change mitigation initiatives. RGE Vice-Chairman, Bey Soo Khiang, spoke at the plenary session on “The Challenge of Food Security for All”.
The Asian-African Business Summit organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia) as part of the 60th Commemoration of the Asian-African Conference 2015, was officially opened by President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo, on 21 April 2015 at the Jakarta Convention Centre. Tony Wenas, Managing Director of PT. Riau Andalan Pulp & Paper, the operating unit of APRIL Group, participated in the Business Dialogue Session on Maritime at the summit.
RGE was a regional partner of the 24th World Economic Forum on East Asia 2015, which took place in Jakarta from 19 to 21 April. The event, known as “Asia’s Davos” in reference to the WEF’s annual global gathering in Switzerland, was attended by some 700 participants from 40 countries, including political leaders, business leaders and representatives from non-governmental organisations. The RGE delegation was led by RGE Founder and Chairman, Sukanto Tanoto.
The 24th World Economic Forum on East Asia 2015 was held in Jakarta from 19 to 21 April, with the theme “Anchoring Trust in East Asia’s New Regionalism”. The event provides a platform for industry and government leaders to explore how enhancing trust can improve cooperation and promote sustainable socio-economic development. Anderson Tanoto, the son of RGE founder and chairman, Sukanto Tanoto, talked about “Indonesia’s Other 48%” in a blog post he wrote for the WEF EA.
On 13 April 2015, Indonesia’s prominent philanthropic foundations gathered in Jakarta for the Workshop on Fostering Commitment and Leadership for Philanthropy’s Engagement in the Post-2015 Development Agenda for Indonesia, organised by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The event also marked the launch of the Post-2015 Partnership Platform for Philanthropy in Indonesia to combat poverty and promote sustainable development in the country.
