On 16 January 2015, the award ceremony for the 2nd “Education Quality Award - Asia Symbol Trophy” was held in Rizhao Development Area Middle School, Shandong Province in China. Participating in the ceremony are Rizhao Overseas Chinese Federation, Education Bureau of Rizhao Development Area and Asia Symbol (Shandong) Pulp Paper Co., Ltd., a company within the RGE group of companies founded by entrepreneur Sukanto Tanoto.
Anderson Tanoto, the son of RGE founder and chairman, Sukanto Tanoto, expressed confidence in Asia and Indonesia’s economic future. He was attending the 45th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, together with RGE Vice-Chairman Bey Soo Khiang. The meeting from 21 to 24 January 2015 is a platform for leaders in government, industry and academia to engage in discussions and collaborative activities that seek to address evolving global challenges. This year’s meeting held under the theme "The New Global Context", reflects the growing worldwide economic uncertainty confronting leaders, along with other political, security and environmental issues.
On 7 January 2015, Rizhao Border Authority and Asia Symbol (Shandong) Pulp and Paper Co., Ltd entered into a Memorandum of Port Self-Management, with the objective of maintaining the efficiency of immigration clearance and facilitate the implementation of The Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People’s Republic of China. The memorandum addresses vessels, routes and cargo as designated by the company and will seek to expediate the clearance of wood chip vessels transporting imported wood chips.
Woodfibre LNG Limited, a subsidiary of Pacific Oil & Gas Limited , announced on 13 January 2015 that the Environmental Assessment Office has accepted its application for an Environmental Assessment Certificate. “Woodfibre LNG’s application reflects the feedback we’ve received from the community and it addresses people’s priorities for the project,” said Byng Giraud, Vice President of Corporate Affairs.
Sukanto Tanoto believes that everyone should have an opportunity to obtain a better life and education is the key to achieve this goal. Hence, Tanoto Foundation was established to be a centre of excellence in alleviating poverty through Education, Empowerment and Enhancement of Quality of Lives.
